A Crying Shame.

"There is beauty in anger, and anger for me is a passion" - Alexander McQueen.

McQueen was just so theatrical and provocative. There are few Designers who constantly create pieces that hit me like a ton of bricks at first glance. That instant awestruck chill. He was definately one of them.

One image that I have never been able to forget was the Nick Knight photograph of Aimee Mullins from a really really old issue of Dazed and Confused that McQueen guest edited. Everyone has always been quick to note how that particular issue was unforgettable because it centered around models with disabilities (a brilliant concept). But what was unforgettable for me was that Givenchy Wooden Fan Jacket. I have the same reaction looking at his metal skirt from Alexander McQueen Autumn/Winter 99'.

The ENTIRE Fall/Winter 08-09 collection was also a favourite. I remember walking past a Harrods window display in London around Christmas time and seeing this incredibly luscious, detailed, exotic red coat. Seeing something that precious up close - the fact that it could simpy be bought and was not in a Museum - was surreal. He was a true master and his absence will be felt.
